Sedation

How we control your anxiety

Time – we give you time to explain your fears and needs

Empathy – we try and work with you to understand your fears and to dispel many of the myths that surround much of dentistry.

Prevention – prevention is better than cure, you will see this as a constant theme that runs throughout our practice. This is doubly true if you are nervous of dentistry.

Technology – We use top of the range technology to make any treatment that you do need painless

Environment – We have created a soft calm feeling in our practice to reduce the feeling of being in a ‘surgery’. Everything from colours to smells have been looked at.

Sedation – for some people the fear is overwhelming and in these cases we can offer sedation. See below.

What is sedation?

With safe and proven techniques, patients receive sedative drugs which work rapidly to create a relaxed state that is maintained and monitored throughout treatment.

Sedation Facts:

It Really Works! You really can relax through your dental appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will I feel any pain?

You will feel almost nothing! We even numb the back of your hand prior to starting the IV.

How long will I be relaxing?

Depending on your needs, from two to six hours. You will rest for 3-4 hours when you get home also, most likely.

Will someone need to accompany me?

Yes, due to the sedative effects of the medication, you will need a responsible adult to drive you to our clinic and home again.

Will I be monitored?

Yes, one of our team is always with you and your vital signs are constantly monitored during the entire visit. You are never alone.

Is IV Sedation safe?

Yes, dental sedation has an extremely high safety record. The level of sedation is well below that of general anaesthesia and so all your own reflexes are in tact, making it very safe.

Will I really be totally relaxed?

Yes. You’ll receive just enough sedation so that you’ll be relaxed and unconcerned about the dental treatment.

Will I remember anything?

Typically, no. At the end of the treatment, you’ll have little or no memory of what was accomplished.

Will I feel any pain?

Most patients experience no discomfort whatsoever during treatment and feel surprisingly good afterwards.

What treatments can I have under sedation?

Any procedure that’s usually done in our clinic can be done with sedation-extractions, fillings, root canals, veneers, Implants and even teeth cleaning.

Is gentle dentistry using IV sedation safe for me?

We’ll review your medical history and if necessary, consult with your medical doctor to be sure, and you’ll be constantly monitored while under sedation.

How long will I be off work?

Each patient is different, so this is a difficult question to answer. However, we find that patients only need to take off the day of the procedure. Most are working the next day.

How long will I be under Sedation?

The length of your appointment will depend upon the procedure being done. There will also be a recovery period of 15 to 20 minutes after the procedure is finished. Because of the drowsiness, you must not drive or operate any machinery until the day after your intravenous sedation.

 TESTIMONIALS

The whole team at wood lane has made me feel so welcome. However my dentist is a genius. My teeth feel better than they have felt in years. His kindness and patience seem unending. I have already made the rest of my family sign up with the practice.

The practice was recommended to me by a relative and though I live some distance away I would travel twice the distance to keep seeing my dentist. He always explains everything he does and makes the whole experience pain free and dare I say even pleasant. He has a lovely team behind him which only adds to my pleasure at being a patient at this practice.

This is one of the best dental practices that I have ever been to. Me and my whole family now use the wood lane practice, and all of us are very pleased with the service that we frequently recieve!
